Cape verde: Tropical storm conditions expected August 31

Event

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), tropical storm conditions are expected on the southern islands of Cape Verde on Friday, August 31, with a 90 percent chance of development into a cyclone in the next 48 hours. The potential Tropical Cyclone Six is currently located about 480 km (300 mi) east of the southern coast of the country, with winds up to 45 km/h (30 mph). Heavy rains and wind are expected in southern parts of the islands in the coming hours and days. Transportations disruptions are also possible.

Context

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the largest concentration of storms typically occurring between August and October. Researchers are predicting a slightly below-average hurricane season for 2018.
