In the early morning of Friday, August 31, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in central Greece, 34 km (21 mi) south of the city of Trikala. No damage or injuries have thus far been reported. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (under a table, under a door frame, in a small bathroom, etc.), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger to their life. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, streetlights, etc. After a major earthquake, check buildings for damages, including downed power lines or damaged gas lines.
