On Wednesday, August 29, seven people died in Uttarakhand's Tehri district in a landslide caused by heavy rains. Landslides triggered by the downpours also severely affected local roads as well as state and national highways. The State Meteorological Centre issued a heavy rainfall alert across Uttarakhand state on September 1-2. A high level of vigilance is advisable in Nainital, Champawat, and Udham districts.
