Thailand: Flood warning in Ayutthaya (North of Bangkok)

On August 29, authorities issued a warning for residents living near the Pasak river to be cautious as the water level is rising, due to water discharges at several local dams (Rama VI, Pasak Jolasid dams). The discharge process is necessary due to continuing heavy rainfalls in Lop Buri and Saraburi provinces. People downstream from Rama VI dam (Tha Rua, Nakhon Luang and Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya districts) are warned of rising water level. New dam discharges could lead the river to overflow and flood low-lying areas around.

Individuals in Thailand present in affected provinces and districts are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly hit by flooding, prepare for associated transportation disruptions, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Please be advised that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all food discarded.
