The accident occurred around 12:30 near the town of Thoreau, 172 km (107 mi) west of Albuquerque, when a semi-trailer truck crossed the median and collided with a passenger bus. Police say a blown out tire caused the driver to lose control of the truck, causing the crash that left seven people dead and more than 40 others injured. Westbound traffic delays are expected to continue into Friday, August 31, until all lanes are able to reopen.
