Thunderstorms cause flight delays at several major airports in American Northeast on August 7; lingering flight delays expected in the coming hours

Thunderstorms have caused significant flight delays for air traffic scheduled to arrive at several major airports in the American Northeast on the evening of Tuesday, August 7 (local time). Average delays of nearly 4 hours have been reported for flights arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR); average delays nearing and exceeding 1.5 hours have been reported for flights arriving at Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Flights destined to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are also prohibited from departing until or after 19:45 (EDT) due to thunderstorms in the Boston area, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Lingering flight delays are expected at these and other airports in the Northeast in the coming hours.
