Argentina: Protesters plan to gather in Buenos Aires and other urban centers May 7

Protesters plan to gather in Buenos Aires and other urban centers in Argentina on May 7. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Demonstrators affiliated with the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (Union de Trabajadores de la Economia Popular, UTEP) plan to gather in Buenos Aires and several other cities on May 7. Participants will gather from 10:00 in several locations around the capital, including on Saavedra Bridge and San Justo roundabout, and other key access routes into Buenos Aires. In La Plata, protesters will gather along the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway from 10:00. In Neuquen, participants will gather from 09:00 on the Neuquen-Cipolletti Bridge. In Necochea, demonstrators will gather from 14:00 at the intersection of Avenida Jesuita Cardiel and Avenida 58. Protesters will demonstrate against multiple government policies, as well as recent cuts to public services.

Supporting rallies in main public squares and along main thoroughfares in other cities in Argentina are possible on May 7; additional events are most likely to occur in Buenos Aires Province. Significant transport and business disruptions are likely in the areas surrounding the demonstrations. Police will likely deploy to the area, and clashes with protesters are possible, especially if police attempt to disperse the demonstrators forcibly.

Avoid demonstrations due to the risk of clashes. Plan on transit disruptions if traveling through Buenos Aires and other major cities. Confirm appointments. Comply with directives given by authorities. If clashes occur, take shelter in a secure non-government building.
