Canada: Nationwide public workers' strike likely to continue through early May /update 3

Public workers likely to continue strike across Canada through early May. Heightened security, transport, and business disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Public workers affiliated with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) union are likely to continue a nationwide strike through at least early May over a series of demands, including increased wages, benefits, and remote work. The strike involves 155,000 government workers, particularly those from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Treasury Board. Organizers have held demonstrations near government sites, including police stations, military bases, and border crossings, since April 19.

Heightened security, as well as localized transit and business disruptions, are likely around government sites, particularly in Ottawa. Disruptions to government services, particularly income tax submissions, passport issuance, and immigration services, are likely. Protests will likely remain peaceful. Delays at border crossings have occurred and are likely to continue happening.

Advice

Confirm appointments in advance. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating near government buildings. Avoid protests as a precaution. Comply with directives from authorities.
