France: Storms warnings in southwest, Massif Central July 19-20

Strong summer storms forecasted in the southwest and Massif Central region of France July 19-20

Powerful storms are expected in the Central Massif and southwest régions beginning at 16:00 (local time) on Wednesday, July 19, and lasting until early Thursday, July 20. The French meteorological agency (Météo France) has placed 15 departments under “orange” warnings - the second-highest warning on a four point scale. The affected departments are: Allier, Ariège, Aveyron, Cantal, Corrèze, Creuse, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Loire, Haute-Loire, Lot, Puy-de-Dôme, Hautes-Pyrénées, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne. Heavy rain, hail, and strong winds are forecast.

Transport disruptions (rail, road) due to debris blocking roads or tracks are possible, along with potential flight disruptions. Localized power cuts and flooding may also occur.
