On Sunday, November 26, violent clashes erupted on the Mali-Guinea border over the control of a newly-discovered gold deposit in the Kangaba area of Koulikoro (Mali). At least 17 people - 12 Malians and five Guineans - were killed, and dozens more wounded. According to local sources, the fighting ceased on Tuesday, November 28.

Tensions remain high in the area, and renewed clashes are possible in the coming days.
