On Wednesday, August 22, overflowing water from the Kaeng Krachan dam on the Phetchaburi River flooded low-lying areas of Phetchaburi province, including the city of Phetchaburi. The flooding, also reported in Kaeng Krachan and Tha Yang districts, was provoked by recent heavy rain, which forced operators to partially drain dams to lower water levels. Phetchaburi is home to Thailand's largest national park, Kaeng Krachan National Park.
Context
Local authorities had previously issued flood warnings for Ban Laem and Ban Lad districts. Flooding from monsoons and tropical storms is common in Thailand from May through October.
