Highway IH-610 (North Loop East) will likely remain closed in both directions near Homestead Road in Houston, Texas, well into the evening of May 8 following a major motor vehicle accident. At least one individual died and another was hospitalized after a piece of heavy equipment fell off the truck carrying it and crossed into the oncoming traffic lanes. A large fuel spill reportedly also occurred as a result of the mishap. Authorities have given no estimate as to when the thoroughfare may reopen other than to say it will be closed for an extended period of time; officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time if traveling near the collision site, as significant spillover traffic is likely in surrounding areas. Consider alternative driving routes.
