Argentina: Nationwide transportation strike November 27

Strike by public transport workers scheduled for November 27; associated transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

The Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT), the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) have announce a nationwide public transport strike scheduled for Tuesday, November 27. Union leaders called on workers to strike during the hours of 04:00-07:00 (local time) in all public transportation sectors, impacting air, land, and sea operations. Organizers anticipate services will resume normal operations beginning at 10:00.

Context

Union leaders accused President Mauricio Macri of reneging on campaign promises made in 2015 to limit income tax on workers in the sector. The unions also accused the government of alerting current collective bargaining agreements and proposing cuts to retirement benefits, among other issues.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm rail timetables, seek alternative means of transportation where necessary, and anticipate severe disruptions.
